To kick off the New Year, we celebrated Christian’s 2nd birthday. Having a New Year baby is such a treat for so many reasons.
It’s crazy to think that just a couple of years ago, I waddled to the hospital on New Year’s Eve in 2019 and had the first baby in Atlanta in 2020. My baby boy, Christian Melokhule (read here to learn how we came up with all the kids’ names) was born at 1:08a. He is the perfect period to our family sentence. It’s true what they say, the days are long but the years are short.
What’s even more special is that he shares his birthday with Daddy James, my father in law, who was the only person I had ever known to have a birthday on January 1. We originally planned to have much more family at the house to celebrate, but with the current rise of COVID cases we downsized our plans and only my parents + in-laws came instead.
The fun was still big in its own way. Christian has been loving Spider-Man lately, so I got a cake from Wal-Mart (seriously they have the best birthday cakes, especially character cakes for kids), gifted him some Spider-Man toys and ordered lots of balloons to create a festive scene. We ordered some wings and that was that. With Christmas being a week earlier, that’s all I could muster up and it turned out to be great.

I was so overwhelmed with how fortunate the kids are to have all 4 of their grandparents present – as they get older, I hope they realize how much of a blessing that is. The day was truly fun, full of love and laughs.
Christian, being your mom is one of the greatest honors of my life. I thank God for you daily. Happy 2nd birthday, Bubs!
