The #1 Reason Your Brand Pitches Aren’t Landing (And How to Fix It)

Every time someone asks me how to pitch brands as a creator, they assume they need all the things:

📸 The latest camera and lenses
📈 A perfect algorithm strategy
🎯 A niche that’s “brand-friendly”

But here’s the truth:

❌ It’s not your camera.
❌ It’s not the trending sound you used.
❌ It’s not whether you make beauty, mom, or lifestyle content.

Pitching brands successfully comes down to ONE thing: positioning.

Why Positioning Matters More Than Anything

Last year, I worked with a brand on a campaign. When they reached out again this year, I nearly doubled my rate. Curious, I asked the brand rep why they wanted to work with me again.

Her answer stopped me in my tracks:

“It’s your storytelling. It’s not just that you’re a millennial mom. No matter what you talk about, you know how to tell your story and position it in a way that makes your followers trust you.”

That right there? GOLD.

She didn’t mention my Instagram aesthetic, my engagement rate, or even the type of content I create. What stood out to her—and made her want to pay me more—was my ability to position myself as someone worth listening to and trusting.

And that’s exactly what brands are looking for.

Most Creators Miss This—Here’s Why

Most creators don’t know their advantage.
And even if they do, they don’t know how to position it to win.

They think consistency alone will get them noticed.

And while posting frequently is important, consistency without improvement is just noise.

Here’s the reality:

✅ If you’re good at something, become GREAT.
✅ If you’re great, become EXCELLENT.
✅ If you’re excellent, MASTER it.

Because here’s the real kicker:

Until you position yourself as an influencer brands want to work with, your pitch will NEVER matter.

This is why the first P in my 3P Pitching Framework is POSITION.

The Positioning Mistake That’s Keeping You Stuck

Positioning is about being in the right place, at the right time, with the right messaging.

Think about football. The quarterback doesn’t just throw the ball randomly—he throws it with precision, aiming for the end zone.

The more you understand your position and how it contributes to the game, the more likely you are to score.

As a creator, your job is to:

🎯 Understand your position—what makes you unique and valuable to brands
🎯 Show up in alignment—posting what you want to be paid for
🎯 Refine your storytelling—so brands (and your audience) trust you

If you want to be paid for makeup tutorials, post makeup tutorials.
If you want to be paid for baking content, post baking content.
If you want to be paid for comedic skits, post comedic skits.

Sounds simple, right? But most creators miss this because they focus on volume over strategy.

Why Most Creators Fail to Get Brand Deals

Most creators think consistency means “posting often.”

But real consistency is about elevating your craft every time you show up.

No brand wants the quarterback who threw the ball 100 times in practice with no improvement.
They want the quarterback who threw the ball 100 times and got better every throw.

Being repeatedly mediocre is the fastest way to be overlooked.
Consistently improving your craft makes you stand out.

The good news? Most people aren’t doing this.

That’s why it seems like the same creators are always winning. It’s not because they’re lucky—it’s because they’ve mastered positioning.

If you don’t have positioning, you will never land a pitch.

Here’s How to Position Yourself as a Creator This Week

If you want to solidify your positioning and attract more brand deals, you need to focus on what’s already working.

Here’s how to do that:

1️⃣ Look at the stats for your content over the last 30 days. Identify the three posts with the highest:

  • Engagement (likes, comments, shares)
  • Conversions (DMs, email sign-ups, website clicks)
  • Reach (how many people saw it)

2️⃣ Create another version of each top-performing post and publish it this week.

3️⃣ Repeat this process for four weeks. Every month, review your data and identify the top three posts that performed best.

4️⃣ Rinse and repeat. Every four weeks, create new versions of your highest-performing posts.

5️⃣ At the end of the quarter, analyze your results. Confirm which three types of posts performed the best overall.

6️⃣ Create that type of content daily on your short-form channel(s) for a year. Continue reviewing your data monthly to refine and improve.

The key here is repeating what works. That’s how you solidify your position and make it impossible for brands to ignore you.
