I never really became a sneaker person until I was an adult. Like my late twenties. I don’t know why. I was always into heels or girly flats. Growing up, the only sneakers I owned were my cheerleading sneakers.

But the more my style evolved these last few years, the more I’ve come to appreciate them. I especially love these Adidas Superstars. So much that I buy them for Maizah all the time.

There’s something about cut off shorts and sneakers in the summer. They’re sort of my unofficial summer uniform. While varsity jackets and bomber jackets have been a trend the last couple of seasons, the souvenir jacket – the lighter, satin-esque cousin of the bomber – has been on my personal radar for the warmer season. First I found this super cute navy jacket for Maizah at H&M when we visited New Orleans for a wedding last month. Then I found one for myself during a “I’m-not-going-to-buy-anything” trip to Target on a random Tuesday afternoon. We both happened to have dark denim shorts and Adidas and that’s how this little mommy & me look came about.

It was so hot, but then literally started storm when we ended this shoot. Maizah was so cute, she literally stopped and said hi to everyone around us. And as much as I hate to admit it, she’s better in front of the camera than I am.
