Getting Back To It With Intention

As summer ends, there’s something comforting about getting back to a consistent daily routine. Maybe it’s because of the shorter amount of daylight, but I tend to move with a sense of urgency as the cooler months approach.

While my kids go to school year-round, back to school is still very much so a thing at our house. I refresh their school items – like backpacks, lunch bags & school clothes – and this year, the girls are starting extracurricular activities like gymnastics, ballet & soccer.

August was full of the launch of the book and the whirlwind that comes along with it. I have no complaints – I am so grateful for the opportunity to write a book and that people are enjoying reading it. I’m also looking forward to slowing down the next few weeks to find my rhythm again – at work and at home.

Summer is great because it allows us to have longer days and a carefree approach to every day that the rest of the year doesn’t necessarily do. But as we enter September and inevitably start fall, there’s a sense of “Back To It.” School is back in session for the kids, work has a way of becoming slightly more hectic as we approach the end of the year and in a blink, the holidays will be in full swing.

This is a great time to restock household items that make your days easier, decide ahead of time what you want to do on days off, and prepare guest lists for the holidays.

You’ll be tempted, but don’t feel compelled to do more. Simply get back to it with intention. Make lists (close those tabs in your head!) and get clear on the goals that actually matter to you. It’s not about doing everything, just everything that matters to you in this season.

As I said in Everyday MAGIC, “Everything that’s a priority is important, but not everything that’s important is a priority.”

A priority for me? Chris and I actually went out for date night this past Friday after missing it for the last couple of weeks and I really enjoyed it. Dating my husband feels good.

What is a priority to you in this coming season? Things don’t become important to us until we name them, so I encourage you to take 10 minutes to yourself today to name the top 5 priorities for you (and your family) as you get ready to enter fall.

Getting back to it doesn’t mean it has to be done with haste, but it is a golden opportunity to do it with intention. Getting back to it ain’t deep, just deliberate.

Here’s to getting back to it with intention and without haste.
