My Spring Capsule Wardrobe

With spring right around the corner, it was time to update my spring capsule wardrobe. To be fair, I’ve never put together a capsule wardrobe for myself. I know what it is and always when others did it. But I recently purged my closet and really challenged myself to only put what I love in it. (Shoutout to Marie Kondo.)

So what is a capsule wardrobe? A capsule collection is a collection of a few essential items of clothing that do not go out of fashion, such as skirts, trousers, and coats, which can then be augmented with seasonal pieces.

Honestly, I love loud, colorful and trendy pieces. They’re usually affordable, fast fashion finds that I can’t resist. I usually buy them, wear them 1-3 times and then they just sit in my closet. That’s the complete opposite of a capsule wardrobe. I was tired of the vicious cycle of most of my closet being trendy then being dated.

What I’ve come to realize is that the pieces I wore most (and liked the most) were usually neutral and sometimes slightly pricier than fast fashion. This is when I decided to build a spring capsule wardrobe with a foundation of staples and a sprinkle of trendy statements vs. the other way around.

Here’s what I also realized very quickly: you can make fast fashion look more expensive when you buy neutrals that are well structured. I scoured the web for pieces I loved that I knew would last longer than the average trend and serve as a great addition to my spring capsule wardrobe.

To be honest, half of my spring capsule wardrobe was in my closet. The other half are new yet affordable pieces I hope will last me more than 1 season. And while there are still more pieces I’d like to add, I’m pleased with where I’ve started.
