How To Make A Good First Impression with Your Blog

You know, after blogging for years, I try my best to make an AMAZING first impression on new readers so they stay readers. After all, it’s not about getting readers, it’s about keeping them. So what they say is true, you’ll never get another chance to make a first impression. Even if you’re working with the bare bones of a new blog, there are three things to keep in mind when you want to make an amazing first impression with your blog.

VISUALS

Lead with great presentation. If you’re taking your own photos for posts, make sure they’re clear (not grainy or pixelated) and consistent in size (they should all be the same width – preferably as wide as the text margins). Your lighting should be favorable – natural light if possible and should add clarity to the post. If you’re using stock images or an images from another site, be sure to source the image and add some text with your blog’s font to it to personalize it to your blog. It will create a sense of cohesiveness to your blog that forces readers – old and new alike – to take your blog more seriously.

VOICE

Your voice single handedly is the most unique thing about your blog. Anyone can copy the template you have or even hire the same designer as you and take similar photos. But your voice is what makes the words float off of the screen and into your readers’ hearts. OMG. So Disney. But it’s true. People come to your blog because they like not only what you’re saying but how you’re saying it to them. If you’re a style blogger, maybe you tell a story with an outfit post like no other. If you’re an infopreneur, maybe your comedic tone creates familiarity and trust with your readers and clients. Whatever makes your voice special, milk it. Till the wheels fall off.

VALUE

This is the cherry on top of your great blog sundae. You’ve paid attention to the details in your visuals, you’ve ensured that your voice is authentic and now you have to provide value. Over and over and over. You know what I say: value = usefulness. How can your reader use the content your provide to make their life easier? To solve a problem? To fill a void? To be an inspiration? The value your blog provides has to be consistent if you want to make the most amazing first impression ever with your blog.

So, are you paying attention to detail with your blog visuals? Is the voice of your blog original and sound? How is your blog providing your reader value repeatedly? Does your blog make an amazing first impression?
